OBIEE 12c remote repository download/upload

One of the most interesting features of OBIEE 12c is an ability to download/upload a repository with command-line utility without using OEM and the best part of all: without restarting of an Analytics server! But when I tried to use it and upload a repository from my developer workstation to a server, I've faced two issues. Disclaimer. This post is a result of my personal investigation. It's neither documented nor supported by Oracle. Following this guide is on your own responsibility. Update Dec 12, 2015 This is now documented: 1.2.4 Error When Running data-model-cmd.cmd Launcher Script. The bug 22095286 BI-LCM TOOLS NOT WORKING FROM CLIENT INSTALLATION will be fixed in 12.2.3 (My Oracle Support)…

I hope Oracle will support Windows 10 in the future releases. There are a couple of tricks needed for installing OBIEE on Windows 10 right now. OBIEE on Windows 10: not a guide

Attention! Achtung! Внимание! This post does not describe how to install OBIEE on Windows 10. TL;DR: Proceed to the OBIEE Windows 10 installation tips post for the installation guide. Windows 10 was released by Microsoft a couple of weeks ago. OBIEE is not certified to work on Windows 10, but I believe it will get a significant share of the OS market very soon. It was interesting for me is it easy or not to install OBIEE 11.1.1.9.0 on Windows 10, and what problems I need to solve. This post was conceived as a collection of clear, simple, and wrong solutions. Something I should try now, not when I come to a customer. I've tried…

Windows: no buffer space available

The problem Today one of an OBIEE servers installed on MS Windows Server 2008 R2 started to show an HTTP error 500 and to throw the following messages to the Windows event log every 12 seconds: Message #1 The description for Event ID 33 from source Oracle BI Utility cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer. If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event. The following information was included with the event: [nQSError: 12002] Socket communication error at call=Connect: (Number=0) Call=NQRpc: An…

OBIEE: HTML5 charts instead of flash charts

A few days ago many people have faced problems with playing flash content in their browsers. OBIEE [by default] uses flash for showing charts so your dashboards have started to look like this: Senior Firefox Support Lead Mark Schmidt wrote in Twitter: BIG NEWS!! All versions of Flash are blocked by default in Firefox as of now. https://t.co/4SjVoqKPrR #tech #infosec pic.twitter.com/VRws3L0CBW— Mark Schmidt (@MarkSchmidty) 14 июля 2015 The same happened in Chrome and Opera. Right now there are new versions of flash available for most (possibly all) browsers so you can simply update the flash plugin and continue to use everything as usual. But you never know when the same will happen again.…

OBIEE 11.1.1.7 to 11.1.1.9 upgrade

OBIEE 11.1.1.9 was released on May 15, 2015 and has a few interesting new features. It is the first (and possibly the last) major release in the last couple of years. From my point of view, it isn't a revolution but evolution of the 11.1.1.7.x branch. It's very easy to upgrade existing 11.1.1.7.x instance to 11.1.1.9.0 and involves the following steps: Download OBIEE 11.1.1.9.0 distributive Determine currently used Weblogic server release Download Weblogic 10.3.6 upgrade installer [optional] Upgrade Weblogic to 10.3.6 [optional] Upgrade OBIEE software Upgrade database repository (MDS and BIPLATFORM) Upgrade various system components Download OBIEE…

OBIEE empty layout in Analysis

Today I patched one of my OBIEE instances from 11.1.1.7.0 to 11.1.1.7.150120 version. And faced a strange behavior. When I tried to add a pivot table to an Analysis and then edit this pivot, I got an empty layout with no fields at all. I saw it in Firefox. Opera was working as it should. Log off and then log on, or full restart changed nothing. The solution is quite simple: clear browser cache. Hope this will save you some time for a really interesting problem.…
